Vietnam sweatshirt exports reach $50.7m

Vietnam saw revenues of $50.7 million (£25.8 million) from
sweatshirt exports for the first ten months of 2006, it has emerged.
Sales figures revealed growth of 52 per cent in value, reports fibre to fashion, while volume grew 35 per cent.
The EU was a major
sweatshirt export market for the south-east Asian country, accounting for 44 per cent of total turnover.
Over the ten-month period, Vietnam sold 4.76 million
sweaters to the EU - a year-on-year increase of 70 per cent.
The value of sales to Europe, standing at $21.8 million, grew by 79 per cent compared to the previous year.
Other major markets for
sweatshirt exports included the US, with Vietnam selling 2.54 million
sweaters, with a value of $13.9 million, to the American market.
Vietnam is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, a trade grouping established in 1967, which also includes manufacturing giants Thailand and Indonesia.
