A Manchester
t-shirts, sweatshirts and polo shirts supplier has established a brand of fairtrade clothing.
Ascension was set up by Simon Hawthorne to design and manufacture clothes which comply with the standards of the Fairtrade Foundation, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The brand's
tees use cotton that has been accredited by Fairtrade, while factory conditions for manufacture have also passed standards.
In addition, Ascension invests its profits into Life Association, the company's charity, which donates money to establish schools and orphanages in Tanzania and India.
"The charity side of things started ten years ago when I went out to Tanzania with a pastor friend of mine to see the work he was doing," Mr Hawthorne told the newspaper.
"I just really felt there was something I could do to help," he added.
Mr Hawthorne's brand started as an online company and has attracted the attention of major fashion retailers.
Speaking of the company's fairtrade commitment, he added: "I read that 90 per cent of people would buy Fairtrade if they didn't have to pay a premium for it."
Therefore, Ascension aims to give consumers "great street fashion" with a Fairtrade guarantee.
The brand recently topped the Ethiscore urban fashion charts.
