A signed
t-shirt from England's rugby stars has helped raise over £4,000 for charity, it has emerged.
The
t-shirt was auctioned at Hereford's Luctonians Sports Club annual dinner on behalf of the North Herefordshire Renton appeal, the Leominster Journal reports.
Signatures were collected by former Luctonians' scrum half Scott Bemand, now a Leicester Tigers player, during his Australia tour with the England rugby squad earlier this year.
"I am over the moon," appeal coordinator Denise Pugh told the newspaper.
"Scott was kind enough to give us the shirt, and [Clubsport's Simon Hussey] helped raise the money on the night."
"I wrote and asked if it would be possible for [Scott] to donate a Leicester shirt, instead we got an England one,' she told the Hereford Times.
Money raised from the
t-shirt auction will be used to help fund a new cancer unit for Hereford County Hospital.
The initiative will cost some £1.5 million in total, according to the Hereford Times.
