Pupils at Coleman High School, Texas have been issued with new
sweatshirts designed by a former art teacher at the school.
The
red and black sweatshirts feature a knight's helmet - depicting the Coleman Knights - and are printed with a banner of the school's name, reports the Midland Reporter-Telegram.
Sweatshirts were given out to students in the canteen and this is the first item of school uniform that has been issued.
A grouping between the Santa Maria Virgin Episcopal Church and the school facilitated the introduction of
school sweatshirts, principal Greg McDaniel told the newspaper, indicating the church has "done a lot to boost the morale of students ... and get students involved".
The partners were keen to introduce a
school sweatshirt and enlisted the help of retired art teacher Roland Rose, who also designs
t-shirts for the Episcopal church camp.
"He [Mr McDaniel] wanted it to be red with black lettering as a sign of solidarity and belonging. I think the kids will wear them proudly," Josie Rose, priest at Santa Maria Virgin Episcopal Church, told the newspaper.
Recently, the St Louis Post Dispatch reported that a US-based charity is set to provide free
school sweatshirts to children in St Louis.
