Students at Crossroads Academy, Georgia are to be issued with a new dress code including white
polo shirts and navy
sweatshirts.
The school aims to alleviate the problems associated with dress in schools and help families, reports the Dalton Daily Citizen.
Lloyd Brochu, director of the academy, told the newspaper: "Dress is one of the major problems in these environments," indicating students without uniforms use their own clothes to show gang affiliation.
"I really believe uniforms take pressure off families, alleviate some of these problems and help increase academic performance," he added.
"I can see why they're doing it," one student said.
Meanwhile, Golden Gate High School in Florida has announced plans to introduce
polo shirts to its school uniform, Naples News reports.
Under the new scheme, students would be asked to wear white, grey, green, pink or khaki coloured shirts.
School president Bob Spano said the move is aimed at "school improvement", as it will allow the institution to focus on learning rather than fashion.
