Duofold, a base layer clothing manufacturer and part of the Hanesbrands group, is set to team up with extreme marathoner Mike Pierce.
Mr Pierce is to attempt a 100 km ultra marathon in Antarctica this December and will use base layers, including
sweatshirts from Duofold.
The firm is also to partner with Mr Pierce to advise outdoor enthusiasts on how best to prepare for the winter, issuing a list of preparation tips for the coming season.
"Running a 62 mile marathon in Antarctica [. . .] takes passion and the right gear to keep you warm while training and during the race," said Jeanne Wilkinson, director of marketing for Duofold.
Recommendations for those undertaking outdoor pursuits this winter include wearing layers, such as
t-shirts and
sweatshirts, so that it is easy to vary clothing according to changing weather conditions.
In addition, Mr Pierce and Duofold advise outdoor enthusiasts to check weather conditions before going outside, to allow for appropriate dressing.
Duofold is a business unit of Hanesbrands, an apparel firm which manufactures
t-shirts and
sweatshirts under the brand name Hanes.
Recently, the firm reported net sales of $1.12 billion following a spin-off from Sara Lee.
