Friday 10th of November 2006 03:20:00 PM

The poppy symbol of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is set to come to the
t-shirts of the Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) strip.
Joining forces with the RBL in Greater Manchester, the club aims to support this year's Poppy Appeal, with the team appearing in the special edition kit.
The player's
t-shirts will be embroidered with the poppy emblem of the veterans' group.
As a special one-off, the
t-shirts, can be seen when MCFC take on Newcastle United on Saturday November 11th – Remembrance Day.
Following the match, the
t-shirts will be auctioned in support of the legion, which aims to provide financial, social and emotional support to present and former members of the armed forces.
Members of Oldham Athletic Football Club will also wear poppy embroidered
t-shirts.
Martin Watkins, RBL county field officer for Greater Manchester, said: "We are delighted that Manchester City and Oldham Athletic are supporting the legion's Poppy Appeal."
Mr Watkins thanked the teams and those who have donated to the charity indicating that the appeal raised around £600,000 for its welfare work in Greater Manchester last year.
