A US high school has announced plans to implement a new dress code which will include
polo shirts, a report claims.
Golden Gate High School in Florida will introduce the dress code for the 2007-08 school year if it is granted permission by the Collier County School Board, according to Naples News.
Under the new plans, students will be asked to wear plain
polo shirts in white, grey, green, pink or khaki.
Long trousers, shorts and skirts in black will form the rest of the uniform, school president Bob Spano told the newspaper.
"I was not in favour of a uniform three years ago," Mr Spano said.
However, now advocating the changes, he added that "the dress code is about school improvement".
"We will be able to focus more on academics than fashion. It will also help us easily identify a stranger."
The principal maintained that uniforms would help Golden Gate to "provide a safe and secure environment".
Meanwhile, a head teacher in Nashville, Tennessee has praised the reaction of students following the introduction of a
polo shirt school uniform.
Caldwell Elementary School has seen a reduction in violent incidents since the dress code was introduced, the Nashville City Paper claims.
