US-based
t-shirts manufacturer Hanesbrands has announced a new election to its board of directors.
Jessica Tuchman Mathews, formerly president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she has served since 1997, has been appointed with immediate effect.
Ms Tuchman Mathews has also previously held government posts, as well as management and research positions in non-profit organisations and journalism roles.
Hanesbrands' executive chairman Lee Chaden said: "Jessica will be an outstanding addition to the Hanesbrands board, bringing a wealth of global experience as well as a successful career of leading and operating within large organisations."
He added that Ms Tuchman Mathews has a "global perspective and results-oriented management style", which is relevant to Hanesbrands and its global operating strategy.
The new board member comes to the post with experience at the Carnegie Endowment - a non-profit organisation which aims to advance cooperation between different nations, promoting active engagement by the US.
The news comes as Hanesbrands, which manufactures
t-shirts under its brand Hanes, reports plans to acquire a sewing plant in Thailand.
Located around 50 miles south-east of Bangkok and employing 1,600 people, the site, which currently makes bras for Hanesbrands, would be the firm's first Asian sewing unit.
