Exports of sweatshirts from Vietnam saw an annual increase of 65 per cent in volume for the five months from January to August 2006, it has emerged.
During the period, the country gained revenues of $37 million (£19.9 million), exporting 7.8 million sweaters and sweatshirts, reports fibre2fashion.
The figure represents a year-on-year increase of 41 per cent in value.
Data indicates the European Union is the largest market for Vietnamese sweatshirt imports, with a value of $16 million.
The European market saw growth of 90 per cent, in terms of volume and value, over the same period in 2005.
According to trading experts, exports of sweatshirts from Vietnam look set to continue with robust growth, fibre2fashion claims.
Meanwhile, the publication states that China takes the global lead in textile production and export, with 45,000 apparel makers in the country, employing over 5.6 million people.
