New developments in technology could mean that the fabrics of t-shirts, sweatshirts and polo shirts are able to express the emotions of the wearer, it has emerged.
Philips Design, the global design agency of Dutch firm Philips Electronics, has announced developments in the area of 'emotional sensing', reports fibre2fashion.
The innovations, part of the firm's Skin exploratory research, could bring dynamic t-shirts and sweatshirts for demonstration purposes, to show how garments can emulate the feelings of the wearer.
Aiming to challenge the notion that digital technologies enhance our lives, the collection includes a dress, surrounded by a 'bubble' which is illuminated by patterns which change with skin contact.
In related news, smart fabrics are under development by a number of UK manufacturers, reports Inteletex.
The new fibres allow the wearer to use a control panel for their iPod or MP3 player, which is incorporated into the fabric of their sweatshirt or coat.
