Sir Paul McCartney has appeared in Russia to perform a concert decked out in a t-shirt promoting a ban on antipersonnel mines, it has emerged.
Formerly the largest manufacturer of the mines, Russia has been waiting for a McCartney concert for many years.
Prior to the performance, the former Beatle spoke with the country's president Vladimir Putin about the problem, reports Russian daily newspaper Kommersant.
Using the anti-mine t-shirt to support his cause, Sir Paul saw the president take place of honour at his concert, with the mayor of Moscow at his side.
The cause of banning antipersonnel mines has been championed by Sir Paul's estranged wife Heather Mills for some years.
In 2003, Ms Mills lobbied the Russian president to reconsider Russia's stance on landmines, on behalf of her charity, The No More Landmines Trust.
