Long Hems and Short Tees

Tuesday 24th of May 2011 02:08:52 AM

Long Hems and Short TeesAs the days grow longer as we approach the summer solstice, the hems on skirts have grown longer too. Hemlines are almost always below the knee and they extend to the mid-calf and all the way to the ankles. Skirts are ‘floaty’ too. They softly twirl around the legs in a fluid motion. The skirts are full and many are made out of floral fabrics reminding you of a spring garden.

When you pair any of these skirts with plain t-shirts in various colors, the final picture is summery and cool. Some fashion reviewers call this look romantic and even a bit gypsy looking. The biggest names in fashion have joined in the fun too. Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld of Fendi and Ferrgamo, Thakoon, Diane Von Furstenberg and others are selling filmy long hemmed skirts.

Women shoppers have already proved they love these skirts too. Though some have said they had to get used to the idea of wearing long skirts in the spring and summer, the stores and boutiques have found them to be big sellers this year. When you walk down the streets of New York, Paris and London and look in the windows, you will find skirts of all lengths. Younger women are showing a lot of interest in the sheer versions of the skirts like those made by Jil Sander, Marck Jacobs and Lanvin. The most elaborate skirt looks perfect with simple tees that are made with and without sleeves.

If you want to be in style then picture yourself in a long skirt with flat sandals and a cool t-shirt. Don’t throw out your leggings though because they are still fashionable too. One trend forecasting firm believes women have been showing skin for so long that they are now enjoying covering up for a change.
