T-Shirts and Bell Bottom Jeans

Monday 23rd of May 2011 02:07:15 AM

T-Shirts and Bell Bottom JeansRemember when bell bottom jeans were popular? Women wore jeans that were flared beginning at the middle of the calf and widening until the ankle. The amount of flare varied from brand to brand. They looked great with t-shirts and were comfortable and popular for years.

Then one day the fashion world decided that skinny jeans would be the style. The flared jeans disappeared and skinny jeans made an appearance. The skinny jeans tended to be form hugging from waist to ankles.

Guess what? Flared jean styles are back! Christine Chen of Needham & Co. In San Francisco is an apparel retail analyst. She said that a fashion shift is coming and that means women will need whole new outfits. She claims that if the jean bottoms change then the tops must change too.

Of course, that may be true if you’re talking about fancy blouses or trendy tops. That’s not true if you’re talking about polo shirts. Tees and polo shirts go with any kind of denim style including skinny jean and flared jeans.

The fashion style change is attributed to the fact that denim sales are falling according fashion researchers. The retail response is to create designer jeans that are radically different from current styles. This forces women interested in wearing the latest styles to buy new outfits. The first test for flared jeans is this spring. They were on the runways last year and are now being sold in department stores.

Will women want to continue buying flared jeans? Sales so far are quite good, but the stores can’t tell yet if the sales will continue. When slim jeans were first introduced in the 1990s it was partly due to the fact that women thought bell bottoms made them look heavier. Will they think differently this go around? Will women be willing to completing change their wardrobe too including footwear? Time will tell, so stay tuned. In the meantime, hang on to your tees and polo shirts because they really do go with any denim style you can imagine.
