So what was the fashion them in New York? The fashion reviewers decided the theme was the History of America. This conclusion was reached because the outfits covered American icon fashions, western wear, Hollywood, and even rockers. There was something for everyone in other words. Interestingly, the hairdos also covered decades of history. There were long hair styles, short bobs, and tall upsweeps reminiscent of the 1930s and 1940s.
One can only imagine that history was captured in modern fashions because people are feeling a bit nostalgic for the “good old days” instead of the current days of turmoil. New designers made tributes to past designers like Halston. The plaid coats, slacks and 2-piece suits and the many shirtwaist dresses were sheer 1950s. So were the varsity jackets and sweatshirtspolo shirts that never seem to go out of style.
Not all the fashions were entirely practical though. There were lacy cocktail dresses and plenty of sequins to be found too. There were ankle length dresses and maxi coats. The ponchos covered the body from neck to ankle and the frontier dresses reminded you of the Wild Wild West.
Fall 2011 is going to showcase an eclectic array of fashions in the stores and online. It seems anything goes!
