Sweatshirts Perfect for Cold Weather

If you have ever doubted the power of hoodies or sweatshirts to keep the cold at bay, you only have to talk to the people in the US and Europe dealing with record lows and heavy snow falls this winter. The year 2011 is shaping up to be a record cold and snowfall year with blizzards pounding places from London to Detroit. In Detroit, Michigan in the USA, the city recently experienced 60 mile per hour winds and below freezing temperatures which knocked out power lines and downed trees. In this city alone, over 230,000 people lost power meaning there was little warmth to be found inside buildings. Record snowfalls have been recorded in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, New York and other places.

So how did people stay warm while without power? When the news interviewed some of the residents trying to cope with the cold, many said they layered sweatshirts and hoodies or several t-shirts and sweatshirts in order to stay warm. One woman said she wore 2 sweatshirts, a hoodie, and wrapped up in a comforter in order to keep the cold out. By wearing multiple sweatshirts, she was able to endure the 8 hours of freezing temperatures before the power came back on.

A woman who is a health care aide said she had to run around outside in the bad weather in order to assist neighbours and find ways to unfreeze garage doors so cars could be used. She said that to keep warm she wore a sweatshirt jacket that was combined with long underwear and additional clothing.

Sweatshirts are extremely warm and can be worn in all kinds of weather as has been proven in countries around the world experiencing record low temperatures. It's never easy to be without power, but the situation can be a lot worse when the cold temperatures won't let up and snow is on the ground. So if you live in a cold climate or an area where severe weather can hit at any time, be sure to keep your closet stocked with sweatshirts for the whole family. You just never know when you might need to wear more than one at a time.
