Is There Such a Thing as a Luxury T-Shirt?

There is the simple t-shirt and the fashion t-shirt. One is made of cotton and is plain and cut in standard patterns. The other tries to be a real player in the fashion world. The fashion t-shirts may have fancy straps, printing, or unusual form fitting cuts. They might be made out of silk or some other expensive material. But have you ever heard of a luxury tee?

There are companies making t-shirts that are described as luxury undergarments. They are made with premium cotton grown in the Caribbean in the fashion of the old time cotton plantations. Said to be soft and comfortable, the luxury tee sounds delightful.

But in reality, aren’t all tees a luxurious experience. Just think about how good it feels to pull on your well worn t-shirt. You don’t have to worry about whether it’s wrinkled or old or even if it has a small tear. Those kinds of features give your t-shirt character. T-shirts that have been washed several times get softer and softer making them even more delightful to pull on after wearing uncomfortable work clothes every day.

The luxury brand claims that its white t-shirts are not a mere mass produced clothing. They represent opulence. But the truth is that luxury is the purview of the clothing wearer. That well-worn well-washed tee in your closet seems like the lap of luxury after a day wearing a tie or dress. So in that respect, every t-shirt is a luxury item no matter where the cotton was grown.
