T-shirts are the standard “uniform” for many Americans. They are comfortable, easy to care for, inexpensive, and offer an excellent way to express oneself. Many companies and organizations use t-shirts to advertise their brand and get their name in the public eye. This successful marketing technique has been utilized by the Ford Motor Company to do more than gain brand recognition-Ford has partnered with the Susan G. Komen organization to raise money and bring awareness to the need for breast cancer research.
Several years ago Ford launched its groundbreaking “Warriors in Pink” campaign. The basis of Ford’s campaign was a simple t-shirt. White cotton t-shirts with a retro logo began to appear in Ford ads and in ads designed specifically for the “Warriors in Pink” campaign.
Ford, hoping to raise a significant amount of money for breast cancer research with the one t-shirt design, did not expect the campaign to last for more than one season and had no plans for further marketing strategies. Fortunately for women all over the world the campaign took on a life of its own and Ford was forced to go back and rethink the possibilities of extending the campaign.
After more than two years the “Warriors in Pink” cotton t-shirts are still setting trends as they bring in money for the Susan G. Komen fund. The line now consists of unisex t-shirts for both men and women, baby doll tees for women, sweatshirts, hoodies, thermals, and kids t-shirts. Ford has also extended its offering of logos available on the t-shirts. There are currently five logos to choose from which symbolize power, strength, and a commitment to work together to find a cure. The company has partnered with famous name designers, like Lily Pulitzer, to create fashionable styles that will appeal to a wide audience.
The “Warriors in Pink” t-shirts are showing up everywhere. According to the Ford Company the popularity of the t-shirts has raised millions of dollars for breast cancer research.
