The HMV Group is a music retailer, but now it’s also expanding its participation in the world of fashion. The company has begun selling fashions in its department stores in a special section called The Studio found only in the larger stores. But even the smaller stores are getting into the act because every HMV Group owned store will carry some kind of clothing. The clothes will be the kind you would expect a music retailer to stock. They will include t-shirts, jeans and jackets for example. The larger stores are located in London, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Dublin and several other big cities.
HMV Group will be specializing in fashion associated with music and music artists and in fashion that is appealing to its typical music customer. There will be a variety of brands sold and some street fashion too. This is not HMV Group’s first foray into clothing either. The company has been selling the Bravado brand for a while. The typical customer is young, likes music (of course) and wants fashion to reflect music taste. HMV said it wants its fashion to be “festival chic.” In other words, the fashion that HMV Group customers buy should be the type they would wear to concerts and music festivals.
Richard Stockwell is the HMV Group fashion manager. He was quoted as saying, "Music and fashion can be a perfect fit for HMV, not least because they overlap and influence each other so strongly these days. And, of course, we now also own a number of music venues and festivals in addition to our stores, so our brand is even more uniquely placed to create a compelling retail offer to our customers and a cool environment for them to shop in. Now they can check out and buy the latest street fashions at the same time they come in to make their music and entertainment purchases."
