Just as you’re thinking about digging out your sweaters for fall and winter, the fashion world is showcasing spring 2011. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show is set to get underway in a few weeks and it’s all about spring. You will get a peak at the spring fashions of Diane von Furstenberg and Michael Kors. This year the New York show has been moved to the Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Previously held for years in tents at Bryant Park, the move takes the show downtown and into a glitzier forum. Bryant Park is in the center of the famous New York garment district, and some believe the show should have been left there. But time and a global economy has led to a decline in this historic city area so show producers believed it was time to move on.
The show has gotten some extra attention, but not for the designs. It’s the ticket process that’s front and center. In the past, to gain entrance you had to have your name manually checked off an invitation list. This year the tickets have been computerized with the hopes people can get into the show much faster. The computer software program will send tickets online and then be used to admit people to the show via a scanned barcode. At the time of entrance, the ticket holder will be assigned seating.
Seating at the show is a carefully orchestrated event. Naturally the designers want the most influential and likely buyers to sit in the front rows. The presence of big name buyers can enhance a designer’s brand.
Show organizer IMG Fashion Worldwide is excited about using technology to streamline entrance and seating at the show. There’s another benefit to using technology too. It is hoped there won’t be as many gate crashers.
Keep your eye out for what’s in store for fashion next year as the show gets under way. You are sure to see everything from evening dresses to tees. It’s a week of fashion excitement for everyone.
