Parents of pre-teens and teens are constantly bombarded today with fashion designs and popular singers who encourage young girls to dress far beyond their years. In the U.S., a role model for the mid-teen age group of girls has been Miley Cyrus. Her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus of international singing fame.

Miley created the character Hannah Montana who is an adorable singing teen who always seems to take the moral high road. Her Hannah character and the real Miley persona become one and the same in the minds of many young gifts. So it was big surprise when young Miley posed for a Vanity Fair magazine cover wearing a draped sheet at the ripe old age of 15. That new image has been followed up with pictures of Miley wearing tight tees and even attending a party in a skirt so short that people wondered why she bothered to wear it. What is getting easier and easier to forget is that Miley is still only 17 years old.

Teen girls experiment a lot with clothes as they explore their budding sexuality. But surprisingly there are plenty of these teens who don’t approve of Miley’s new style. They proved that when they shunned Miley’s new music video titled “Can’t Be Tamed”. The sexy new music video led many of her young fans to move on to other singers like iCarly. Miley’s new video, in the opinion of many, made her look and act more like a 25 year old woman.

Young girls are always on the lookout for role models. But parents are determined to not let their children act and dress like adults and that seems to be exactly what Miley is doing. Perhaps Miley needs to ditch the corset she wore in the music video and return to the sassy Hannah Montana skirts and t-shirts that are more age appropriate. Even stars shouldn’t grow up too fast!
