The fashion industry has had a very difficult time during the recession. People lose interest in high priced designs when they are dealing with difficult money issues. That’s why inexpensive but high quality fashion retailers have done quite well. Inexpensive printed t-shirts, polo shirts and sweaters have seen sales growth as people create their own designer style for a fraction of the cost. The fashion industry is now gearing up to get to the attention of consumers again because designers and department stores are ready to sell clothes. The post-recession period presents real challenges for fashion designers who enjoyed a pre-recession period of unlimited extravagance in styles and clothing construction.
The new trend in response to consumers still struggling to recover from the devastation of the recession is ready-to-wear. Once out of favor, this style is making a comeback. Fashion week is where pre-collections are displayed to buyers and retailers. It’s the first glimpse into what is coming in the next fashion season.
Last season, Fashion United interviewed the Director of PAPP Trade Fairs. PAPP hosted a new event last July that was outside of the Paris Fashion Days. This new women’s clothing event gave ready-to-wear brands an opportunity to market their collections without being in direct competition with Paris Fashion Days. This is a great opportunity for lesser known brands to showcase their new styles.
This new event clearly showed that the fashion industry is still focused on attracting consumers back to the fold by offering choices outside of the expensive Fashion Week collections. The new collections promise creativity and quality. Of course, you can still buy great quality clothing like printed t-shirts and polo shirts online, but it’s sure fun looking at the new fashion collections. You just might get some new ideas on how to wear your t-shirts!
