Fashion designers find inspiration in a variety of people, places and things. Now it’s bats that are inspiring an Autumn/Winter 2010 designer collection by an emerging fashion artist. Yes…you read right…black bats. Some designers were revealing their next season designs at the Hoxton Factory during a special event last week. One of the designers was Ada Zanditon who is an ethical designer. She said that her new “Echolocation” collection was created using bats for inspiration and thus the name. Some of the fashion outfits were clearly bat inspired with their tight black leggings and shirts. In the pre-collection there is a variety of clothing that adheres to the principles of eco-fashion. For example, you will find special edition organic cotton t-shirts made out of bamboo. The designer collaborated with staff at the Bat Conservation Trust and a percentage of every t-shirt sale will be donated to the non-profit.
Zanditon is selling her designs through clothing stores and online. She is in the process of developing a web presence for the luxury line of clothing. The luxury market demands unique fashion designs and inspiring creativity and that’s one reason the designer chose bats for inspiration. Zanditon was quoted as saying this about her collection: “My long term vision for the brand is to develop Ada Zanditon into an international fashion brand and to eventually have Ada Zanditon ‘destinations’, retail, lifestyle and creative stores, which provide the customer with a unique experience – for example a customer could visit one of the Ada Zanditon stores and not only pick up a beautiful designer garment but also find out about their local community gardening projects.”
The reception was an enormous success with a number of designers attending. Besides Zanditon, designers Imogen Belfield, Alice Palmer, CC Kuo and Rakish Heels were in attendance among others. The reception was hosted by Felicities which is a public relations firm.
