If the popular FashionUnited predictions are correct, then 2010 is the year when consumers will buy more clothing online that they will buy offline. The website has been reporting continual growth in the number of shoppers buying online over the last couple of years. Now it seems that High Street retailers may fall behind in 2010 as consumers look for bargains.FashionUnited completed a survey recently and the answers revealed that over half of the U.K.’s shoppers are going online. They are buying everything from work clothes to sweatshirts. If the numbers hold up through the rest of 2010, it will be the first time that over half of the British shoppers will have bought more online than they purchased on High Street. The survey was conducted by the market research company IMRG.
One by one the major retailers are either moving completely online or offering both online and offline sales. The efficiency of internet shopping is hard to beat and its cost effectiveness is beyond compare. The low overhead and minimal staffing needed means products can be sold for lower prices. They are also delivered right to your doorstep too.
Paul Armstrong is the Managing Director of a clothing company named Vintage. The company was selling in a traditional High Street retail store and then added an online presence. Now the company has gone 100% online. Armstrong told FashionUnited that the website was selling more than the retail shop within 12 months. The online business model is much more profitable than a retail store because of the lower overhead and operating expenses when compared to traditional retailing.
If you need clothing then look online first for everything from business suits to cheap t-shirts. Chances are you will find the best bargains right on your computer screen.
