T-Shirts and Wool Shirts

Thursday 04th of February 2010 03:44:30 PM

T-Shirts and Wool ShirtsWoolrich is celebrating the company’s 180th anniversary. The American clothing company has been designing and selling wool clothing for so long that the company itself is almost iconic. Much of the clothing is made of wool plaid and it’s the plaid that makes Woolrich clothing so distinctive.

The company is said to have been the one that put the first zipper in trousers for men. The clothing was popular in the lumber camps of early America. The company was actually started by an Englishman named John Rich who immigrated to the United States. Woolrich began in 1830 and the wool mill made clothing that catered to the outdoorsmen. Today the wool shirts are worn over cotton plain t-shirts providing extra insulation and comfortable warmth. Woolrich has been around so long that much of the company’s history tracks the history of the U.S.A. For example, The Railroad Vest was designed in the mid-1800s at a time the mighty rail lines were being laid coast to coast. The Railroad Vest has proven to be timeless and is still popular today.

Of course, technological advances in fabrics have made wool as comfortable to wear as cotton in many cases. The days of unbearably scratchy wool are gone. The new wool fibers are sometimes combined with cotton and synthetic fibers to create beautiful clothing with performance qualities.

Woolrich is celebrating its 180th anniversary by creating a special line of clothing that copies designs produced over the years. For example, the Stag Jacket and the Ranch Coat will be offered for sale. But only 180 pieces each will be made for each garment offered for sale in the special collection. Anyone interested in owning a Woolrich commemorative garment will need to buy their garment quickly.
