Obese Women and Fashion

Monday 25th of January 2010 08:40:53 PM

Obese Women and FashionObesity is a problem that continues to get worse all the time and especially in developed nations. In women’s fashions it has led to clothes being cut larger even though the sizes have remained the same on the labels. New styles have had to be introduced also that accommodate more rotund figures. There is a lot of discussion over whether the fashion industry should be making changes to clothes that accommodate people who continue to get larger all the time. Sewing larger clothes but keeping the same size labels is considered to be a deceptive practice by some.

Obese women have been faced with fashions over the years that offer very little style. That is changing. Now people who are overweight or obese can find styles ranging from attractive sweaters to stylish dresses. And the models being used to sell the fashions are getting heavier and heavier. It used to be that plus sized clothes were worn by thin models on the catwalks. But today those plus sizes are being showcased by strutting models that are also plus sized.

In the USA, First Lady Michelle Obama has decided to address childhood obesity. Obama is a beautiful woman who appeals to the average woman. She has proven to be stylish and wears a variety of clothes that enhance your best figure features. But she is dedicated to helping Americans learn how to lose weight and eat healthy beginning in childhood.

The fashion world has been accommodating heavier women by changing designs and sizing methods. But rather than catering to the obese woman, many feel the fashion industry should participate in efforts to promote healthy lifestyles. This means women should not be too thin or too heavy.
