The unofficial new fashion year has officially started for 2010 as the celebrities parade in their fashion choices. Last year Jennifer Lopez showed up in a gold Marchesa. Drew Barrymore was dressed more sedately in a blue chiffon dress. It’s a show that has a long line of strutting stars who go all out to dress for the ceremony. At the glamorous Golden Globe awards, anything goes and that is part of the fun. Viewers often watch the show just to see what the stars are wearing as much as to see who actually wins an award. When you watch this annual show, you can expect to see tux suits matched with white t-shirts and traditional low cleavage sequined gowns. There might be comfortable and skintight body suits or showgirl style outfits. Men may be dressed sedately or decide to use one of the man-bags called Flanimals created by host Ricky Gervais.
If you have the impression that the Golden Globes is really a mishmash of fashion designs ranging from crystal laden gowns to simple polo shirts, you would be absolutely right. But that is exactly why a possibly boring awards show becomes a fascinating glimpse into a world of fashion. You can watch the show and imagine what you would choose if money was no object. Would you be a style setter or a safe dresser? Would you go for adventure or sedate comfort?
In an interesting twist of fate, the host of this year’s Golden Globes award, Ricky Gervais, is known for roaming New York streets wearing baggy t-shirts and not-very-attractive gym shorts. So what will he wear to emcee the show? Anything is possible…and that’s the whole idea.
