The Basic Cotton T-Shirt Remains Popular

Friday 14th of January 2011 07:18:33 PM

The Basic Cotton T-Shirt Remains PopularT-shirts come in a wide variety of designs, colors, and styles. Bright neon colors with a loose fit may be popular one season while close fitting neutrals turn heads the next. Cotton t-shirts have become a national uniform and a prominent promotional item.

Every year new and exciting t-shirt innovations hit the market. In some cases they catch on but the majority of the time the standard cotton t-shirts reign supreme as the all-time best sellers. Some recent novelty t-shirts include some interesting versions. For example, the Plumber’s T that is a t-shirt with a long tail to cover that unfortunate sagging problem experienced by many plumbers. There’s the Ascorbic Acid T which is a t-shirt treated with vitamin C. It provides the vitamin C of 2 oranges. There’s also the Stretch T. The Stretch T is a super elasticized t-shirt that is originally the size of a hand. It can stretch up to a size 18!

No matter how many spectacular t-shirts appear each year business owners and consumers still want their basic cotton t-shirt. To keep the cotton tees looking new and fashionable designers are improving the cut and construction and offering different fabric weights and new color choices to buyers.

The largest market for the cotton t-shirt is the promotional market. Mary Retts recently commented that what was worn only under clothing is now worn as a uniform in many settings. “Fifty years ago the guy you could not take home to mom and dad wore a t-shirt, (and) today children are wearing them as a central part of their school uniform,” stated Retts in an article.

With the wide variety of cotton t-shirts available, Retts advises that buyers consider several factors when making their purchase. First, it is important to recognize what the t-shirt is for in order to determine its durability. Other factors include geography and the buyer’s budget. According to Retts, the heavier cotton tees are the most popular right now which signifies a focus on durability.
