School Polo Shirts Make Ideal Schoolwear

School Polo Shirts Make Ideal SchoolwearA major complaint among parents and students in American schools that require school uniform is that the uniforms staunch individuality. Students, when required to wear school uniforms lose what makes them an individual – their uniqueness.

Schools respond to these complaints in numerous ways. First, it takes more than what is on the outside to create a student’s uniqueness and school administrators are fast to point this out. “If your child is unique because of what he wears, not because of his grades, his athletic abilities, his musical talents, his art talents, or some other creative process – you will be happily surprised once he puts on a school uniform and his other talents have the opportunity to shine,” says Mikey Rothburg, California psychologist specializing in gifted and talented children.

Rothburg has advised many school administrators in their dealings with parents and individuality is one of the biggest barriers they come up against again and again. When meeting with antagonistic parents Rothburg often asks parents to watch videos of typical high school classrooms and the behaviors that teachers are required to deal with on a daily basis. Many parents are shocked at the rude and disrespectful attitudes displayed by students who are dressing to ‘fit in’.

Rothburg is quick to tell parents that uniforms will not change every behavior but once they are in place big changes will start to take place in the school culture. First, “students will feel better about themselves and will be less apt to take their unhappiness out on others. Then, once students don’t feel cornered they will begin to express themselves in amazing ways. We call it school uniform therapy’, jokes Rothburg.

Rothburg also advises school administrators on what choices to make when purchasing uniforms. The number one factor is comfort, followed by durability. Cut, color, and style are also important. The best items include cotton tops like polo shirts with layering options like sweatshirts or sweaters. The school logo can be placed on each of these items for school identification.(c) Image by Guillermo Ossa, www.sxc.hu/
