Fashion trends come and go in cycles. The clothes you wore in the sixties are probably very similar to what is showing up in stores today. However, there are basic looks from each era that define a generation. When looking back these fashions are much more than clothes. They describe the culture and people of an era. What will the fashion future see when they look back on the current generation?

The contemporary generations have created some of the most exciting fashions to be seen in many decades. Clothes have become unisex and cover less than ever before. And, new textures and processes allow for a variety of soft and comfortable fabrics.

The number one look for the generations of the current era is the ‘boyfriend’ look. To achieve this look women have stolen t-shirts and blazers from the men’s departments in stores. A basic white cotton tee shirt is the fundamental piece around which the entire look revolves. With the tee shirt and blazer a fashionable woman adds oversized jeans or khakis, usually rolled at the hem, and oxfords to complete the look.

What does this tell you about the decade and this generation? Comfort is essential. This generation does not want complicated fashion and wants to keep their choices as natural as possible. There is nothing more comfortable than a large white cotton tee shirt and loose fitting jeans. A well worn blazer adds a scholarly element. To keep it fashionable designers add silver, lots and lots of silver. Bangles can be worn from the wrist to the elbow with this look and necklaces can be roped around the neck with abandon. No belts say fashion experts; they will interrupt the classic comfortable lines of the look and make it appear more formal.

The boyfriend look is perfect combination of masculine and feminine that defines this generation. Equality, relationships, and a focus on fun are what the people of this era represent and this can be seen in the their classic fashion from the future.
