Top Hat, Tails, and a Tee Shirt

Monday 02nd of November 2009 07:48:26 PM

Top Hat, Tails, and a Tee ShirtWhen an invitation comes for a formal dinner or formal event it usually means it is time for men to get out their tuxedos or suits and women to find lavish ball gowns. Fabrics such as taffeta, linen, silk, damask, and velvet come to mind in a rainbow of colors. What doesn’t come immediately to mind is the classic tee shirt.

This year t-shirts are showing up in new and interesting places. Yes, years ago Miami Vice aficionados wore tee shirts with newly designed tightly fitted blazers, but today tee shirts are being worn with fashion staples such as the classic tux.

Fashion experts are already predicting what will be seen on the red carpet at this spring’s award shows for music, film, and television. The big show stopper will be the classic tee shirt! Men will be pairing the tee shirt with classic fitting blazers and dress slacks or even a tuxedo jacket in some cases. One stylist warns that it takes a very confident man to be the first to pull off this look but once it hits the tabloids it will become an instant hit.

Women have many options when it comes to dressing up with tees. The most classic is a throwback to the 20’s. Long, sheer, wide legged slacks that are tightly fitted at the waist can be paired with a tightly fitting tee shirt for maximum impact. The pants and the tee shirt are both unique on the red carpet and will stop reporters in their tracks. Other stars will most likely pair tees with long ball gown type skirts or short embellished skirts. A fitted tee shirt in light gray worn over a full and flowing sheer blue diaphanous ball gown style skirt is a memorable combination one fashion expert hopes her client will be wearing on the red carpet this season.
