Levi’s Celebration

One of the most classic outfits that can be worn is jeans and t-shirts. For school children the classic outfit is slacks or jeans and polo shirts. Levi jeans were first developed to withstand the wear and tear dished out by miners and outdoor laborers. But that has all changed with Levi’s apparel collection now including several stylish brands.

One of the most recent fashion additions is the Obey x Levi’s. This is a limited-edition collection being promoted with a public art installation located right in front the New York City Levi’s store in Times Square. The art project was designed by street artist Shepard Fairey. It is a collage of layered images that touch on many of the issues facing the world. These issues include global warming and politics.

This trendy mural commissioned by Levi’s shows exactly how trendy the jeans company has become. Fairey is a well known artist who is respected and admired. The mural will only hang in front of the Levi’s store until 5-November-2009 at which time it will be removed. There has been no indication as to whether the project will be displayed elsewhere. Fairey said this about his art piece, "I've always felt that keeping my art bold, simple and refined was a way to cut through the clutter, and it's a formula that Levi's has been using for decades that keeps them accessible and populist yet stylish and relevant. The posters I created for Levi's are returns to the roots of my style: one side with an industrial propaganda poster feel that connects with the heritage of Levi's as a brand for workers, and the reverse side reflecting my other biggest influence, punk rock, and the connection of Levi's to punk and rock in general."

Next time you send your children off to school in jeans and polo shirts just think about the fact they are as stylish as the people on Times Square.
