Christmas is just around the corner…at least in the minds of retailers. It won’t be long before Christmas themed tees start appearing in stores. Everyone loves to wear t-shirts and sweatshirts sprouting Christmas trees, Santa Clause or angels. Even people who don’t wear printed clothing will still buy red and green t-shirts and sweatshirts as a minimum. As more and more people choose to shop online, IMRG decided to publish some shopping rules early addressing online safety rules. E-retailers will be trying to entice shoppers to their sites in an weak economy and it’s important to follow basic rules to insure you do not fall prey to any scams. In the UK, Christmas shopping last year amounted to billions with almost 40 percent purchased online, so this is big business any way you look at it. There are many reasons why online shopping continues to grow and they include higher fuel prices and online pricing that undercuts storefront prices.
IMRG wants shoppers to have an enjoyable shopping experience so they developed shopping guidelines for consumers. The program is named ‘Internet Shopping is Safe’ or ISIS. E-retailers can sign up for the program and IMRG will verify the company is honest and safe to shop. Once IMRG verifies a company is legitimate, consumers can shop the website with the knowledge the business has been independently verified.
Consumers can take many steps to greatly increase their chances of a safe shopping experience. For example, shoppers should protect their computers with security software. Passwords for debit and credit cards should always be kept confidential. Only make a purchase when the secure icon is present (small locked lock appears). By paying attention to these kinds of details, shoppers can safely browse online Christmas merchandise and buy with confidence.
