From Runway to RunwayPromotional clothing has become a popular clothing choice for office workers, sales staff, and manual laborers. Small business owners and large corporations supply employees with cotton tees and polo shirts to wear while at work to inspire professionalism.

Jane Smenk is a buyer for a promotional clothing distributor. She was recently interviewed about how she makes choices for what to include in the company’s catalog. “First of all,” Smenk stated, “we can always get what a customer wants, even old styles no longer in our catalog. We come through about 99 percent of the time. But, for this current catalogue I looked at current fashions, runway shows, teen trends, anywhere there is fashion including MTV. I take these ideas with me when I go to market.”

Smenk feels like her ability to stay up to date with current trends gives her company an edge over other businesses. “We have new color choices every season and new styles. This may not sound like it matters in the world of promo clothing but it makes employees feel special. These added touches give them a little boost that makes them want to succeed,” says Smenk.

Smenk’s company provides clothing for a major airline. She calls it her Runway to Runway deal. She works with the airline two seasons ahead to determine upcoming uniform choices for all aspects of the corporation. T-shirts are supplied for ground grew and baggage carriers. Golf shirts are worn by staff interacting with the public. And, each season little changes such as the length of the hem or the fit of the shirt changes to keep up with current styles.
