T-Shirts and Harem Pants

You don’t have to go to Saudi Arabia or Morocco to find harem pants. They were introduced to the Spring 2009 runways at women’s fashion shows. A better word to describe their appearance would be the pants were “reintroduced” because this style of pants has come and gone, and come and gone again, in the fashion world.

Harem pants are not for everyone. They can make hips and rears look wider and larger than they really are and worn incorrectly can look downright silly. But they are also comfortable and can be worn with a variety of shirt styles including t-shirts. It’s probably one of the reasons this pant style never completely disappears from the scene but only retreats temporarily.

Another reason why these pants keep returning is just because they are very different from most other styles. They are sassy and trendy and can add an updated look to any wardrobe. Choose plain t-shirts or a shirt with gold thread and you can change the pants from casual to dressy. The key to wearing this style successfully is understanding how to mix and match clothing pieces and shoes. For example, many women choose stiletto shoes to wear with these hip expanding pants to lengthen the look. Flamboyant fabric patterns in the pants are often paired with subdued colored t-shirts. For evening, chunky jewelry can be worn to add flair. For casual wear the harem pants are worn with sportier v-necked t-shirts or soft cotton tank tops.

If you are harboring a desire to add some attitude to your wardrobe then harem pants can mix well with your t-shirt collection. The key is to not be afraid to try something different and have some fun with your clothing style.
