In the early part of July, the Intertextile Pavilion at Shenzhen in China hosted an International Trade Fair for Apparel Fabrics and Accessories. Despite the recession, the fair was well attended with almost 12,000 buyers from around China checking out the newest textiles and production methods. Many of the largest manufacturing cities were represented including Fujian, Shanghai and Zhejiang to name just a few. The show was held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in China.Messe Frankfurt Trade Fair Director Wendy Wen feels that the textile industry has a bright future in China. China is one of the few global economies that continued to expand despite the recession. She was quoted as saying, “Now, the textile industry is experiencing a general downturn in business, however, we feel that there is a lot of potential in Southern China as there are many apparel fabric mills. We are encouraged by the outcome this year and feel that the overall increase in both exhibitor and visitor participation is evidence that China is an important player in the global textile trade”.
Though most consumers really don’t stop to consider where the fabric came from in those blank t-shirts they buy, the textile industry is always working on new methods of producing fabrics, garments and other items made from textiles. The textile category is actually quite comprehensive and reaches into a variety of industries including furniture and tire production.
China’s textile industry is growing and has been concentrating on improving quality in order to be more competitive. There were a number of exhibitors at the show representing the countries of Hong Kong, Korea, Switzerland, Japan, and of course, China. The show gave exhibitors and attendees plenty of opportunity to share information, ideas and technology.
