Shadow Squad is a recreational paintball team formed in 2007. It’s based in London, Ontario Canada. The group was originally made up of just a few friends hoping to have some fun with paintball games, though they do enter competitions. For example, they compete regularly in the Canadian Tactical Series for fun and practice as a team. But participation in formal competition is not the team’s priority.Paintball games are energetic recreational activities but players need to understand safety guidelines to avoid injury. Shooting tees with balls of paint sounds harmless but injuries abound in this sport. The shadow Squad team promotes safe play and fun and has a motto that says “play safe and have fun”.
The Shadow Squad recently decided to host a charity fund raising event. The team is selling t-shirts in an event they named “Raising the Roof”. The purpose of the fundraising event is to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Not only will the team benefit the charitable organization, it hopes to also give paintball teams a better image. Many people have negative views of the sport and Shadow Squad wants to change their views of paintball teams.
The Shadow Squad is sponsored by several businesses. Sponsors include Flagswipe Paintball, Wu Print, and Anywear Print. The team enjoys winning, of course, but doesn’t believe winning is the ultimate goal. Instead the members believe having fun and enjoying the camaraderie of friends is more important. It’s a close knit team, and to join the team you must have the same attitude towards the sport.
The reason Shadow Squad chose Habitat for Humanity to benefit from their fundraising is because the charity helps people help themselves rather than just give money away. Habitat for Humanity builds new homes for qualifying families around the world with donated labor and materials.
