It is not even summer and retail stores are beginning to make plans for fall 2011. In many cases the first round of orders have been placed, allowing industry experts to predict what will be hot sellers, what colors will be popular for the fall season, and silhouettes that will be in fashion. The colors for fall are neutral. No more hot pinks and bright, lemony yellows. Stores are stocking up on earth tones and other colors that exude comfort. T-shirts, sweaters, and polo shirts will be found in burnt sienna, sage green, deep burgundy, and variations on sand.
Fall is a time we all want to be comfortable says John Thomas of Fashion Institutes America. “People hunker down in the fall as cold weather approaches. We feel they will do so this year more than ever before. They will want comfortable clothing in soothing colors. Designers have chosen to focus on earth toned fabrics that mach the season,” Thomas said in a recent interview.
The new color palette leads one to wonder if consumers will be buying this fall. The slow economy is not projected to pick up before the fall buying season begins which may result in people trying to make do with what they have. Mix and match pieces, like t-shirts and sweaters will be big sellers because they can easily be added to an existing wardrobe.
Fall is a time for soft sweaters and pullovers. Shoppers can buy an inexpensive sweater and pair it with slacks they in their closet. In addition to the mix and match trend consumers will want clothing that is durable and does not lose shape. Pre-washed cotton is a great choice for durable clothing and many manufacturers focused on cotton for the season.
