Apparel trends are always changing. What was fashionable last spring may not be on the runways this year. Changing fashion trends require consumers to constantly update their wardrobes. Even during a recession the garment industry will usually see some profit because of the changing trends.Experts say that trends change for 2 reasons. People want something new and novel, they want to be current. Secondly, they like to find this novelty without stepping out of their fashion comfort zone. A traditionally dressed consumer will most likely be willing to change colors before making major style changes.
The runways for spring 2009 predict big changes in color. Designers are leaving earth tones behind and looking to vibrant shades of yellow, pink, blue, and orange as well as bold and geometric patterns. Also popular is comfort. T-shirts , polo’s, and other cotton clothing items are hot.
“Jewel tones popped on the spring runways,” stated Nancy Beggar in an online interview. Remember the earth tones from fall and winter? They have completely disappeared. If you do see any muted colors they are for accent only. We see designers using beautiful mineral tones and jewel tones combined with natural fibers. Also big this spring will be clothing influenced by the East – rich tones and comfortable, flowing fabrics.”
Clothing trends for spring are also going green. The high interest in organic living has spread to fashion and consumers are searching for clothing made with organic cotton.
It is hoped that the vibrant colors of spring will encourage consumers to buy. These colors are considered ”happy” colors and are just what people need during a downturn in the economy say experts.
Another benefit for consumers experiencing a cash crunch is the appearance of mix and match wear. These pieces allow consumers to add a t-shirt or polo to update a look without spending lots of money.
