A Bright Forecast for Summer

Monday 30th of March 2009 03:22:38 PM

A Bright Forecast for SummerSpring is finally here and that means summer is not far behind. Many people are already planning their summer vacations and thinking about their summer wardrobes.

Consumers will be happy to know they can expect beautiful bright colors in summer clothing this year. Summer runways shouted BRIGHT, DARING, and VIVID as designers focus on colorful mix and separates for the season. Hot pink, zesty lime, bright orange, royal blues, and many other vivacious hues will make it easy for consumers to put together exciting summer wardrobes.

Many designers used simple polo shirts and t-shirts as the basis of their summer collections. These pieces were paired with brightly patterned sweaters, shorts, skirts, and pants to make a bold statement.

Designers also focused on natural fibers in their summer collections. These natural fibers, such as cotton, breathe well during the hot summer months, pack well for travel, wash well, and are very comfortable. They are extremely durable and will hold up well to the rigors of the season.

Why the bright colors? One interesting theory is that designers went bright and bold this summer in response to the country’s weakened economy. It is hoped that bright colors will make consumers “feel good” enough to buy. A slow holiday season was very disappointing and retailers are hoping the colorful t-shirts, polo shirts, and other clothing items will help summer figures rise above projections. “A great summer could certainly help us overcome the slow sales we have been experiencing these past few quarters,” says Dessy Arnold of Fashion Net. “Clothing is a necessity but fashionable clothing is a want, not a need. We have to find ways to get the consumers into the store and buying. Designers have really helped us out for summer by focusing on separates where people can buy individual pieces to update their wardrobes.”
