Working Up a Sweat

Thursday 05th of February 2009 04:44:16 AM

Working Up a SweatConsumers can expect to see sweatshirts and athletic wear in stores this spring. Casual clothing is very popular trend with all age groups and stores are stocking up to meet customer demands.

Sweatshirts and athletic wear for this spring is not your basic grey or white. Designers and manufacturers have taken hints from the spring 2009 runways and are producing casual athletic wear in bright and bold colors.

One major department store, which sells sweatshirts and athletic wear under its own label, is offering sets for ladies and girls in hot pink, vivid ocean blue, canary yellow, and zesty lime. For men the same store has sweats in royal blue, lemon, bright orange and true red.

Stores are hopeful that customer demand for this type of apparel remains high. Sweatshirts and athletic wear are very versatile and economical. They are not limited to athletic activities. Many children and teens love wearing comfortable sweats to school. Adults like the price and wear sweats when not at work. Some adults report “living in sweats” on the weekends.

After a disappointing holiday season stores across the country are hoping to recoup some of their losses this spring. They trust the popularity of sweatshirts, polo shirts, and athletic wear will draw customers into stores. Once customers are in the stores, say industry experts, athletic wear will be prominently displayed. Hopefully customers will be encouraged by the low prices and buy several sets.

Consumers can count on the athletic wear trend to persist. Fashion insiders report that the trend toward comfortable clothing will continue into the fall. Customers who buy athletic wear in the spring can wear their purchases through the fall and hopefully into the winter. This ability to stretch a trend across several seasons will encourage consumers to buy now which will boost store sells for the 1st quarter of the year.
