Fashion Barbie Doll 50th Birthday Party on the Catwalk

Does Barbie wear tees? Does the glamorous fashion doll ever dress down and just kick back to enjoy a comfortable day in her plastic house? Those are questions that had to wait for answeres until after the birthday party held on the catwalk by famous designers celebrating Barbie’s special place in the annals of fashion. Industry news could not pass this week without noting the 50th birthday of the beloved doll and her penchant for wearing stunning fashions.

New York Fashion Week held a special show which included models wearing outfits which will eventually be miniaturized to fit a Barbie doll. There were fifty-one designers who created fashion ensembles to celebrate Barbie turning 50 years old.

The show was attended by hundreds of New York mothers and daughters that began with a model wearing an exact copy of the original bathing suit. The bathing suit is easily recognized with its zebra-like black and white stripes. The fashions that followed were a stunning display of exotic, trendy and contemporary styles. Unlike most women in real life, Barbie can wear anything from jeans and sweatshirts to a fantastic Bob Mackie costume. Seeing Barbie come to life on the catwalk was fun and fascinating. The outfits included gold beaded dresses and one-legged jumpsuits in addition to a number of every day and work style designs. Barbie has always owned a large wardrobe enabling her to manage over 100 various careers over the 50 years.

Much to everyone’s delight, even Ken made an appearance looking stylish in jeans and a jacket made of black velvet. Barbie’s fashions are going international at the London fashion show this coming week where emerging designers have created miniature outfits for Barbie that will be copied for the real life models to display at a catwalk show.
