Must Have Colours: New Colours for Spring

The holidays have come and gone and stores are revving up for spring. Down come the red, the green, the silver, and gold and up go a bouquet of bright and beautiful colors.

This time of year is one of the favorites for many retailers reports Trends Across America, a national newsletter for retailers. “The New Year is a time of new beginnings for retailers as we begin plans for the upcoming spring season,” says Jack Bonn. He goes on to say that the new colours in ready to wear this season are bright and cheerful, a great antidote to a sluggish holiday sales season.

Many designers are incorporating bright floral colours into their spring lines. Bursts of bright pink, coral, iris, and yellow will be seen in everything from cotton t-shirts to silk skirts.

Black is also back according to trend forecasters. In recent seasons earth tones have been predominantly featured in many collections, but this spring black is one of the most popular basic colours. Bonn says this return to black makes sense, “because it makes a stunning backdrop for the bright floral colors popping up on the runways”.

But don’t despair if you still love those cream pants you bought last spring. You can easily jazz up any basic colour with a new brightly coloured t-shirt or one of the colourful polo shirts . A hot pink top will look fabulous with a pair of navy or brown slacks.

Retailers are already showcasing these hot new spring colours in stores. In an attempt to kick start early spring sales many retailers are incorporating the bright floral colours for spring in their Valentine sales circulars and displays.

Just like that box of Valentine candy hearts you received as a child – Valentine’s Day 2009 will be more than red and white. It will be burst of beautiful floral colours.
