As reported several weeks ago, the UK retailer Adams has been in financial trouble. Based in Warwickshire, it is a large retailer with 260 stores in the United Kingdom alone. The company also opened 116 stores internationally and makes the brand name 'Boots' garments. The company applied for administration about 2 years ago and had hoped it would have been able to turn itself around by now.

The company probably had a good chance and then the economy collapsed. As a result, Adams found itself with a £30 million debt load and falling sales. This is a story that is being repeated throughout the fashion, garment, and textile industries. And as the economy got worse, the competition for consumer dollars got more intense.

Adams is a retailer specialising in children's clothing. During the past weekend, the company had no choice but to call for administration. Unfortunately this means over 2,000 more jobs are now in jeopardy. Adams is in good company too, because retailers Woolworths, Officers Club, and Zavvi have fallen also as the country's recession causes debt to rise and revenue to fall.

The stores which are doing well right now are the giant supermarkets and the online stores. The best bargains for children's clothes such as school uniforms, t-shirts, and sweatshirts are found on the internet.

The firm has warned that there are more major retailers that will probably go into administration or insolvency by the end of 2009. Most retailers depend on December holiday sales to make them profitable for the year, and due to the recession, that did not happen for a number of chains. Sales were much lower than hoped for or expected.
