2008 Fashion Forward Awards

The United Kingdom has been developing its global presence in the fashion industry. The British Fashion Council was formed to promote British fashion . One of its goals is to encourage new design talent by providing recognition and even monetary support. One of the many awards given out each year is the British Fashion Council Fashion Forward award. The award was first given out 2 ½ years ago. The purpose of the award is to provide financial support to new designers just developing a business while also showcasing the new British design talent.

Recently, the award was given to designers Christopher Kane, Erdem Moralioglu, and Marios Schwab. This is the second year in a row these 3 designers have been recognized with the Fashion Forward award. Hilary Riva is the Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council. She was recently quoted as saying, “Fashion Forward is a British Fashion Council support scheme which contributes to building a sustainable fashion industry in London, through providing funding to talented emerging designers at a time when it is often required the most. This season’s winners are already on the way to establishing international businesses and reputations, we provide them with the platform and access to knowledge required to develop their businesses into influential fashion brands.” Prior winders of the prestigious award include Giles Deacon, Richard Nicoll and Roksanda Illincic to name a few.

Both the Erdem label created by Erdem Moralioglu and the Marios Schwab label was introduced in 2005. The Christopher Kane fashion design label debuted in 2006. The three labels represent a diverse set of styles and include everything from t-shirts to figure hugging dresses. All of the award winning fashion labels are sold in boutiques and directional stores. The designers have gained international recognition which supports the efforts of the British Fashion Council.
