You may not think too often right now about children wearing polo shirts, but that is about to change. The Tommy Hilfiger USA company used to make children's clothing and then quit. Now the company has decided to once again sell a line of children's wear made in the easily recognizable Hilfiger designs and colours. The Executive Director of the Tommy Hilfiger Group said, "In the past several years our children's business has grown in Europe to become one of the leading names in children's apparel, known for its quality, attention to detail and Classic American Cool design aesthetic. We are proud to reintroduce the children's line exclusively to our Macy's customers and are confident that the new product offering and quality will complement an already successful business."
The children's clothing will be sold in USA Macy's stores and will include a focus initially on leisure wear for Spring 2009. The clothing will include t-shirts, jeans and shorts, and swim wear. The first clothing line introduction will only be boy's clothing. Girl's clothing will be introduced at a later date. In the fall and winter of 2009-2010, the clothing line will be expanded to include heavier woven shirts and sweaters.
The children's clothing line is actually part of a strategic collaborative agreement between the Tommy Hilfiger Group and Macy's which also includes men's and women's wear. The Vice Chair and Chairman of Macy's Merchandising Group is Janet Grove. She had this to say about the arrangement. "Macy's customers have responded enthusiastically to the exclusive Tommy Hilfiger product in women's and men's categories, and we expect the children's collection will similarly resonate with families seeking quality, fashion and value. This is a terrific partnership that underscores Macy's as a destination for fresh and unique assortments throughout the year."
As a result of this agreement, you can soon expect to see children wearing polo shirts in the signature Hilfiger colours.
