Thursday 30th of October 2008 08:53:26 PM

Kid Rock T-Shirts Raise Scholarship Money Selling t-shirts to raise money is nothing new, but this time it is the well known singer Kid Rock that is taking the limelight in charity fund raising efforts. Kid Rock owns the “Made in Detroit Clothing” company which makes trendy youthful cloths. In fact, Kid Rock wore one of the company jackets on a music video and it became instantly popular.

Now the company has designed limited edition t-shirts which have the company logo included in the Wayne State University logo. The tees are being sold to raise money for music scholarships in a city know for its music legacy.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who live in Detroit and are enrolled in Wayne State University music programs or in a related area of study. The scholarship will be fully funded through t-shirt sales. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage young people to follow in the footsteps of the music notables who gave Detroit its reputation for producing music which has made history. Kid Rock hopes to inspire talented youth who wish to desire to pursue careers in the music industry but cannot afford to attend Wayne State University without financial assistance.

Sharon Vasquez is the Dean of the Wayne State College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts. She said, “We are thrilled that Kid Rock recognizes the talent of Detroit’s youth and Wayne State’s critical role in helping to nurture and shape that talent to create the musical artistry and expertise of the future.”

Selling tees to raise money is nothing new, but it gets more youth attention when someone like Kid Rock assists in the fund raising activities. He said, “This city has been very good to me and my family. I truly believe that a major part of Detroit’s healing and moving forward will come through education.”

Detroit has been hard hit by the downsizing of the auto industry and the economic troubles the country has been experiencing.
