JC Penney and Charlotte Ronson Make Beautiful Tees Together

JC Penney has made quite a stir with the announcement the chain store company has signed an agreement with the Charlotte Ronson brand of clothing. The story has appeared in fashion news, well-known magazines, and in financials sections of newspapers and online sites dedicated to market reports.

The reason this particular association has caused a stir is because the joint venture seems to be ideal. JC Penney is a mid-priced retail store that is not known for being upscale trendy. But the designer Charlotte Ronson may change that image. Ronson is going to create an exclusive line of the clothing for the store which will include tees, blouses, dresses and skirts. In addition, the sportswear line will also include jackets and sweats and even jeans. In other words, it will be a comprehensive line which has been named the "I [Heart] Ronson" collection.

The line of clothing is expected to add a whole new element to the JC Penny image. The young designer is already attracting consumers to the JC Penney stores that would normally shop elsewhere. The Ronson line will be introduced into 600 stores in time for spring. The clothes can also be purchased online. Current Ronson designs are already sold in upscale department stores around the world.

JC Penney, like most retailers, has seen a downturn in sales due to the weak economy. The comparable store sales for September declined by 12.4%.

The President and Chief Merchandising Officer for JC Penney, Mr. Ken Hicks, was quoted as saying, "JC Penney is focused on bringing newness and excitement into our fashion assortment, by identifying the world's best designers and partnering with them to create lines just for our customer, at a smart price." Charlotte Ronson said, "I see this as a great opportunity to open up my sense of fashion and style to a much wider audience."
