British Fashion Awards Highlight New Designers

Monday 20th of October 2008 04:58:25 AM

British Fashion Awards Highlight New Designers The 2008 British Fashion Awards will highlight both successful designers who have been in the industry for a while and emerging designers who are creating exciting new fashion lines. The awards are partially sponsored by Swarovski, and they focus on those designers bringing the most recognition to the UK fashion industry. The UK is working diligently to promote itself as a creative and important segment of the clothing industry.

The Chief Executive of the British Fashion Awards, Hilary Riva, was quoted as saying, “The Awards celebrate the extraordinary talent within the British fashion industry as highlighted in this year’s nominees list.”

The show will have 10 award categories including Designer of the Year, Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear, the Emerging Talent Award for Accessories, the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design and many others. The emerging talent awards will include a monetary amount. The Designer of the Year award will go to a British designer of couture, ready-to-wear, and knitwear. But the award will also focus on the designer in these categories who has made a direct impact on UK and international fashion.

Riva said, “I would like to thank Swarovski for their support of the British Fashion Awards 2008 and for their sponsorship of the ‘Emerging Talent Awards’, which will help to support two of our newer talents as they establish their careers and businesses.” The panel of judges includes the editor of Harper’s Bazaar, Lucy Yeomans; model Claudia Schiffer; Nadja Swarovski who is the Vice President of international communications for Swarovski; i-D contributor Lauren Cochrane; and Yasmin Sewell who is a buyer.

The UK fashion industry includes all categories of clothes and accessories ranging from tees to footwear. The British Fashion Awards bring significant attention to UK efforts to promote its contributions to the fashion industry.
