The fashion, clothing and textile industries are experiencing tough economic times throughout the world. But the Ted Baker brand is an exception. Owned by the Group, the Ted Baker brand was able to report a strong first half financial performance in the retail division. Sales were up 17.5% which is remarkable in a retailing environment where downturns are more likely to be reported right now.The Ted Baker brand realized £53.3 million sales for the first half of 2008. The Ted Baker brand was able to increase sales by creating a multi-channel distribution system for its products The brand is known for its innovative t-shirts and sells a wide range of clothing for men, women and children.
The Chief Executive for the Group, Ray Kelvin, was quoted as saying, “The Group has performed well during the first half of the year and the strength of the Ted Baker brand combined with our successful multi-channel distribution strategy and careful international expansion has enabled us to deliver good growth for the period in an unpredictable market. The initial response to our Autumn/Winter collections has been positive. Since the period end we have opened new retail stores in Bristol and Liverpool and look forward to the opening of our two new stores in the White City development in Westfield London. The Board is, however, mindful of the uncertain economic environment and we remain understandably cautious about trading in the second half of the year."
The Ted Baker brand was begun in 1988 and has grown to become a global company. The multi-channel marketing distribution system for the clothing includes selling through department stores and the company’s own retail storefronts. The brand can be found in the USA and Europe as well as the Middle East and Asia.
